How we're responding to COVID-19
We're committed to international volunteering and supporting our valued partners in 26 countries across the Indo-Pacific.
Following the unprecedented impact of COVID-19, the Australian Volunteers Program has adapted the way we support our valued partners in the 26 countries in which we operate.
In 2020, we launched remote volunteering, which allows Australians to volunteer remotely with partner organisations overseas and continue to help them to achieve their goals. The initiative has been a valuable tool for ensuring we provide ongoing support to our partners during this period.
In response to the security and safety implications presented by the pandemic, the program has reduced the number of Australians volunteering within the countries in which we operate. There are a small number of in-country volunteers involved in national responses to COVID-19, predominantly in the health/medical field. These roles are not advertised due to the technical expertise required.
The program has increased our support for partners through our Impact Fund, which provides eligible partner organisations with small grants towards targeted projects that support their communities.
We’re also continuing to explore new ways of working through our Innovation Fund, which identifies, develops and pilots new ideas and solutions to increase the impact of the program.
